Couples Therapy 

Your relationship with your partner is unique and different to every other relationship in your life.

​

​To be emotionally and sexually intimate with a partner meets our emotional needs to feel loved, valued, understood, desired and supported in a way which no other relationship in our lives provide. We have different expectations of our partner than we do with the other people in may have strong, loving and emotionally connected relationships with family members and friends but these relationships are different, in intimate partnerships we allow ourselves to be at our most vulnerable and trust our partner to respect and care for us.

The following are the most common difficulties in relationships:

  • Arguments

  • Communication difficulties

  • Growing apart

  • Infidelity

  • Trauma

  • Feeling Unappreciated

  • Money, budgets and debt

  • Boredom

  • Having and bringing up children

In therapy, couples are supported by a therapist who is neutral, and skilled in helping a couple explore their relationship and improve communication and connection by:

​

  • Identify issues

  • Identify patterns of relating and behaving within the relationship

  • Improve communication

  • Change behaviours

  • Develop empathy

  • Problem solve

  • Gain insight

  • Make plans and agree on boundaries or rules in the relationship, such as to support communication or to enable discussions to be effective and avoid conflict
