Girl in Therapy

What is Therapy?

One of the most challenging decisions is the decision to get some help, and to try therapy. Making this decision means that you have acknowledged that something needs to change and that you need some help to change.

When something needs to change, we go through different stages of becoming ready to change, making the changes and then sticking to changes made.

This where therapy comes in.

Finding the right therapist shouldn’t be hard

Successful therapy depends on finding the right therapist: someone you can trust, who will work effectively with you.

Therapy provides the time and a safe space for exploring and talking through issues. Your therapist will help you to identify and challenge some of the thoughts and patterns of thoughts which relate to the thing that you want to change. There may be other experiences in the background which have effected your thinking, feelings and behaviours. The therapist will support you to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns to make way for more positive, healthy and productive thoughts they will then support you to make the healthy patterns your new thinking patterns.

When working with children the therapist essentially does the same, but we get creative and make the process interactive, fun, creative and engaging. Our therapists have experience of working with children of all ages.

How do appointments work?

During the he first appointment or two your therapist will be asking about you, your issues and your goals. These sessions will also provide with support and skills to begin to make the changes that you want to make. You can ask about therapy and decide if this is right for you.

Ongoing appointments are usually weekly

You can end therapy whenever you want – we ask for two weeks notice, this allows for your therapist to round off the work you have been doing- which is important for your wellbeing.

An appointment is usually 50 minutes at the same day and time each week.

What you discuss with your therapist is confidential within the limits of current regulations, your therapist will explain all of these issues and answer any questions that you have.
